Erythropoietic Effect of Billirubin

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was undertaken to assess the erythropoietic effect of bilirubin, with special reference to dose response relationship, as well as it´s effect on acute pas*h~:norrhagic anemia with following results.
(1) \o appreciabl difference in retic:aocyte count was noted bet:: eon preinjection and postinjecton values in rats inj.ct~d distilled waver and solvent respectively. Also no significant difference in both marrow m~cl~ated rid cell coun*. and erythrocyte ~~Fe incorporation was found between the distilled water and the solvent iaject~d groups.
(2) The difference rf reticulocyte c~uns between the prcinjection and postinjectien values was widened proportionaily as the doses of the bilirubin increased. Also it was noted that both the marrow nucleated red cell count and erythrocyte 69Fe incorporation tended to rise proportionally as the doses increased.
(3) A significant increase in tl:e marrow nucleated red Celli count and erythrocyte b~Fe incorporation was s~;cn in acute posthemorragic anemic rats with bilirubin as compared with those without bilirubin.
